The current rector of St Nicholas, Rev Fr Mark Therrien, started his appointment on the Feast of St Basil and the Lord’s Circumcision: January 1, 2024.
Prior to coming to St Nicholas, Fr Mark earned an ThM at St Vladimir’s Seminary in Yonkers, NY. Before that, Fr Mark previously completed two degrees in theology at the University of Notre Dame: An MTS (2014) and a PhD (2019). It was while at Notre Dame that Fr Mark met his future wife, Olena. The two married in October 2015 at St Mary’s Antiochian Orthodox Church in Goshen, IN. Fr Mark has taught theology at Notre Dame, the University of St Mary of the Lake, and St Vladimir’s Seminary.
Fr Mark was ordained to the holy diaconate by Archbishop Daniel (Brum) in January 2023 on the Feast of the Three Holy Hierarchs at St Vladimir’s Seminary. Archbishop Daniel subsequently ordained him to the holy priesthood on July 22 of that year at Holy Trinity Cathedral, the Mother Church of the Diocese of the Midwest. After ordination, Fr Mark served as a part-time priest at several local parishes during his final semester at St Vladimir’s.
